Located in the south of Burgundy, in the Maconnais region, the Pouilly Fuisse Appellation is situated where the relief becomes more marked, around the rocky cliffs of Vergisson and Solutre-Pouilly, on the slopes of Mount Pouilly and the cirque of Fuisse, on the Beauregard plateau and the heights of Chaintre. 'Les Cras' is a wellknown 'Climat' located on the windy and chalky plateau of Beauregard, from the village of Solutre-Pouilly. The thin, shallow soils lie on Jurassic calcareous layers. Some clay veins appear here and there. The name 'Cras' means chalk in our local dialect. Chateau de Beauregard owns almost 4 ha of 'Vers Cras' and produces about 10 000 bottles of this prestigious Pouilly-Fuisse.

The aromas and the flavours reveal the mineral (chalk) and the vegetal (fern, boxwood). Here, the Terroir overpass the fruit expression. The finish is balanced and rich. This wine is complex and subtle. The best moment to drink this wine depends on the natural acidity of the vintage. In the best vintages, our Pouilly Fuisse 'Vers Cras' evolves more than 10 years when stored properly.

Producer Information

The estate consists of 55 hectares (135 acres) of which 13 hectares (32 acres) are cultivated for vines.

These have been lovingly planted on the lush hillsides of chalky clay soil that surrounds the property's own winery, tasting room, family home and gite.

We currently grow three varieties of red grapes, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from which are produced rosé and red wine.

Beauregard has received many awards for its wines and by venturing into the organic arena the already excellent standards are due to keep on rising.

Running a vineyard is a demanding business requiring much specialist equipment as well as brains & braun!

Since 2006 Domaine de Beauregard have been producing wine from grapes grown free of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
