Available 06th Dec 2014

The Glass Collection Chardonnay has a bright and brilliant colour with a slight green hue.

The wine has complex aromas of citrus, lime zest and melon.

On the palate there is a beautiful round comforting texture with wonderful length and intense fruit complexity.

Very dry season with cool conditions during ripening

Winter in 2011 was dry but cold

Bud burst was 7 days earlier than usual and it was very even

Low spring temperatures lead to slow shoot growth

During flowering there was rain which resulted in week set and loose bunches and increased disease pressure

Favourable, cool conditions from pea bud to veraison

A temperature spike during ripening put the vines under water stress

Harvest was one week head, but finished a day early

Wine quality was excellent.

Producer Information

The Glenelly Estate is in the Idas Valley, located in Stellenbosch, on the southern slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain.

Its origins date back to the seventeenth century. Simon van der Stel, Governor of the Cape, gave the land to the Huguenot François Villion.

In 1812, the estate passed to Johan Peter de Villiers, and finally in 1911 it became the property of a British Famliy, the Garlicks.

They owned it for 92 years until its purchase in 2003 by May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who for over 30 years was the owner of the famous Bordeaux Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Pauillac Grand Cru Classé.
