We are absolutely delighted to have added the brilliant wines of Lopez de Heredia to our range. Based in Rioja Alta, the wines are produced in a classic style that has long been unfashionable. This is one of the last real gems of the wine world.

Founded in 1877 by Don Rafael Lopez de Heredia y Landeta in Haro, famed capital of La Rioja Alta, it has become the oldest in the town and one of the three oldest in the whole of Rioja.

Still in the hands of the family, the Bodega is now run by the charming Maria Jose.

Producer Information

For one hundred and twenty five years three generations of the Lopez de Heredia family have devoted themselves to producing exceptional wines, masterpieces which need fear no competition from any other wine in the world. They have achieved the aim of the founder, Don Rafael Lopez de Heredia y Landeta, which was to produce the Supreme Rioja. When Don Rafael Lopez de Heredia began to build the winery little did he realise that his master plan would one day be acknowledged as an example to the rest of the industry as the most perfect combination of buildings and vineyards. Like many medieval masterpieces, still incomplete, the buildings stand below and above ground, a veritable Cathedral to Wine.
Today the estate covers 53,000 square meters with 6,906 square meters underground. The cellars are up to 200 meters long, descending to a depth of 15 meters with 15,000 Bordeaux barrels of maturing wines. This is in addition to their huge 125 year old Oak Casks used for fermentation, the red casks each hold 240 hectolitres, whilst the white casks each hold 60 hectolitres.
