Merlyn Welsh Cream Liqueur is a combination of cream and the finest Welsh malted barley spirit from the Penderyn Distillery.

Rich and warming creamy texture and fudge toffee is overlaid with the tingling aroma of fresh clean spirit. Gradually these give way to vanilla, hints of banana and exotic fruits - and even rose petals - all lingering gently in the background.

In the mouth the fruits are more intense and intermingle with the vanilla. When swallowed the combination of fresh cream and complex spirit produce a mysterious depth which is difficult to describe but encourages the next mouthful.

Review: While in Wales for the weekend I came across their alternative to Baileys. The first taste sets it apart from the well known Irish cream. It seems creamier and has a slight hint of chocolate. And most importantly doesn't leave a strange kick that always stops me from have a glass of Baileys. If you like Amarula try this. You wont regret it.

Producer Information

The first seeds of an idea to bring back whisky distillation to Wales were sown in 1998 in a late night conversation between friends in a South Wales hostelry. Over the coming weeks the plans gathered momentum and became not merely a workable idea but a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
A small group of enthusiastic and like-minded investors were brought in and a suitable site, known to be situated above an ample source of pure spring water, was identified. Plans for a building and distillery equipment were developed, and construction was completed in 2000, allowing production to start late that year.
The Penderyn Distillery is found in the picturesque village of Penderyn in the southern reaches of the scenic splendour of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The area has spectacular mountain scenery, open moorland and valleys containing fast-flowing streams, rivers and waterfalls. The famous and popular Scwyd-Yr-Eira waterfall is within walking distance of the distillery.
The majority of the distilled malt spirit is laid down and matured in Jack Daniel and Evan Williams bourbon casks, and finished in rare Madeira barrels to impart a unique and distinctive character and flavour to Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky. A number of other woods, such as sherry casks, are also used for maturation, to provide a variety of specialised "limited edition" whiskies to be released from time to time.
All distillation, maturation and (unusually) bottling are carried out on the company's premises; enabling close quality control to be applies to all stages of the process.
Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky was first launched on St David's Day, 1st March 2004, to huge critical acclaim from both acknowledged whisky experts and "ordinary" consumers. Indeed, The Welsh Whisky Company has already won a number of prestigious awards for the quality and taste of the whisky and for its distinctive and stylish packaging.
The company remains privately owned and managed by a committed and enthusiastic team of individuals.
As well as the now well-known Penderyn Single Malt Whisky, the company also produces a range of high quality spirits consisting of Brecon Five Vodka, Brecon Special Reserve Gin and Merlyn Welsh Cream Liqueur.
