One of the first fruit liqueurs created at the family's original distillery founded in 1827 in Neauphle-le-Chateau, near Versailles. Cherry Marnier is made exclusively from Morello cherries, a variety from Turkey known for its full flavour. The cherries are ground with their stones to lend body and aromatic richness before undergoing slow maceration and resting for one year in vats where the liqueur acquires its roundness and complexity.

Colour: Deep red tinted with copper hues.

Aroma: Rich nose of cherry enhanced by notes of sweet almonds and spices.

Flavour: Perfect balance between the smoothness of the liqueur and the freshness of the fruit. Morello cherry flavour enriched with notes of vanilla and gingerbread.

Review: This is a fine top end cherry brandy. It is slightly darker and richer than 'normal' brands such as De Kuyper, but whether it is worth the extra I'm not sure. It used to look amazing because it was sold in a flock red bottle. It used to be one of the centre pieces of my spirits and liqueurs collection alongside Vieille Cure - sadly no longer produced.

Producer Information

The Grand Marnier bottle, with its cognac pot-still shape, wax seal, red ribbon and ivory label with gothic letters, has not changed in over 150 years. It is instantly recognizable. For over 25 years, Grand Marnier has been the most widely exported French liqueur.
Today Grand Marnier is available in over 150 countries. A bottle of Grand Marnier is sold every two seconds around the world.
More than 150 years and six generations after it was established, Grand Marnier is still owned and managed by the family that founded it: the Marnier Lapostolles.
Today the company's president, Jacques Marnier Lapostolle, defends the same values as those of his great-great-grandfather: quality, authenticity and style.
