Producer Information

The history of Les Tourelles de Longueville starts with the 1986 vintage, following the purchase of Chateau Pichon-Logueville by AXA Millesimes. The idea was to craft a wine recognised as coming from the terroir of a great wine and capable of meeting the expectations of impatient wine lovers.
The concept became a reality once part og the vineyard had been replanted with the Merlot and Cabernet France varieties. Les Tourelles found its style with a wine combining the distinction of the terroir of Pichon Logueville and the elegance of the grapes.
The blend is currently built around the plot of Sainte Anne planted with a majority of Merlot. The soil consists of fine gravel over an iron hard pan. The vineyard is perfectly drained and cropping implements the precepts of Terra Vitis certified integrated production. There is no spraying with insecticides and grassing maintains low vigour and helps the life of the soil. Leaf stripping and thinning lower the yield of grapes that are carefully sorted to keep only the very best.
The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from the best plateaux, ideally suited to the variety which draws all its complexity from the deep gravel soils bordering the Chateau.
Plot by plot vinification enables adaptation to the specific conditions of the terroir and of the vintage. Once fermentation has been completed, tasting serves to select the batches for blending. Generally, the Cabernet Sauvignon accounts for 40%, the Merlot for 50% and the Cabernet France for 10%. These proportions may vary, however, depending on the conditions of the vintage. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, with 30% new and 70% one year old to bring out the fruit, Morello cherries and blackcurrant. The smoothness and elegance of the tannins testify to their youth. The depth and long finish on the palate reveal a great wine to be enjoyed equally well with all the typical Medoc dishes, such as lamprey, lamb and game, and the classics of French cuisine. It will also provide the perfect accompaniment for beef or local cheeses.
