Description:
This classic blend displays a festival of red fruit and spice aromas.

The palate is bursting with rich black plum, cassis and spice.

Long and smooth on the finish with supple tannins.

95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The grapes were harvested, fermented and matured in individual batches to capture the distinctiveness of each parcel. Fully destemmed grapes were fermented on skins and after extended maceration, each parcel was pressed and transferred to French and American oak barriques. Maturation for 15 months evolved the wines' character and flavour while softening the tannins. Each batch was assessed to optimise the expression of varietal personality and site characteristics in the final blend. Predominantly Merlot, the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon has added structure and backbone.

Producer Information

Vidal wines are made with food in mind and a passion for sharing with great food and good friends. The story began when Anthony Joseph Vidal journeyed from Spain to New Zealand in 1905 where he purchased a Hawkes Bay stable yard and set about converting it into a cellar and winery. It was from there he became one of New Zealand's early wine innovators.

Family-owned until the 1970's, Vidal was purchased in 1976 by George Fistonich who has consistently built on Vidal's reputation as a quality wine producer ever since. In 1979 Vidal opened New Zealand's first winery restaurant where Anthony's passion for good food and good wine lives on today and is celebrated by the flame on every bottle of wine.

The Vidal winemaking philosophy focuses on minimal intervention from vineyard site to bottle. The result is a collection of award-winning and highly acclaimed wines which are true to their roots and exhibit the perfect combination of balance, concentration and complexity.
