A remarkably sleek, refined Carmenere, which really brings out the grape's mineral side while balancing power and elegance on a knife edge. The palate is charged with ripe, focused blackcurrant fruit, the finish long and satisfying.
Grapes are from the Apalta vineyard in the Colchagua Valley, currently in the process of being certified biodynamic. Three parcels of the vineyard contribute to this wine: colluvial granitic slopes for concentration and acidity, lower alluvial stretches for juiciness and colour, and a particularly fine sandy plot of Carmenere.
Following a manual harvest, grapes underwent a strict selection, by both bunch and berry, on long sorting tables. Fermentation in stainless steel with wild yeasts lasted for up to two weeks, with skin contact throughout.
The wine was aged for thirteen months in French oak, with 29% new wood, and the rest a mixture of second and third use. It was then bottled without fining, and only the lightest of filtrations.
