70% old vines viura and 30% malvasia, raised in new French barriques Yellow-gold.
Available 10th Feb 2014
Exotic aromas of orange marmalade, poached pear and honey, with a strong note of vanillin oak.
Very rich, palate-coating orchard and pit fruit flavours are complicated by notes of cinnamon, five-spice powder and flowers.
A late touch of licorice lingers on a sweet, sappy, persistent finish.
It is now more than 10 years since Finca Allende first released their principal cuvee Rioja Tinto and it now has a justifiably loyal following. Based in Briones in the Rioja Alta, winters are cold and summers roasting, but this strongly continental climate is tempered by the fact that the Atlantic is just 70 km away to the north-west.
No leaf is left unturned in the pursuit of excellence at Allende, including above average vine-density and hand-picking only at optimal ripeness.
