Especially low yielding ripe hand picked fruit, gentle winemaking and extended maturation in French oak have resulted in a complex and powerful wine.

It has aromas of ripe cherries and plums, a rich and silky smooth palate and a long spicy finish.

A great example of one of the best Central Otago Pinot Noirs - Best rewards are gained by careful cellaring.

Producer Information

Owned by Stephen and Thea Farquharson and Stephen's sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Geoff Bews, who are all committed to producing top quality grapes and wine and are a truly family owned and run business. They are originally all from farming backgrounds in North Otago, more recently working in IT both in Wellington and overseas. They all came back to Cromwell (Central Otago) to run the vineyard at the end of 2004 in time for their first vintage 2005.

Wooing Tree is a family owned single vineyard site, situated in the heart of Central Otago next to the town of Cromwell and opposite the "Big Fruit Sculpture". The location gives a perfect mix of various sub-regional climates and optimum heat degree-days.

Approximately 44,000 vines were planted in 2002. The 26 ha single vineyard site has 16 ha planted in mainly Pinot Noir of multiple rootstocks giving variety, complexity and risk minimisation. The vines are all grafted on American rootstock to prevent phylloxera problems.

Steve studied viticulture, winemaking, the wine trade and WSET Diploma in Wine at Plumpton College in the UK before setting up a wine importation company and selling wine in the UK 2003 to 2004. Jane studied viticulture at Plumpton College also.
