|Vortice means 'vortex' in Italian, a spinning flow of liquid around a core. Nowhere is this more apt than in Sicily, with its famous active volcanoes and mythical whirlpool 'Charybdis'.This wine is made by New Zealander Alana McGettigan of Il Faggio. Both Matt Thomson and Alana made a couple of trips to Sicily to ensure that this new wine was a success.|
The Nero d'Avola harvest is earlier than that for Montepulciano, and occurs while there is a lull in Verona, so Alana flew to Sicily to select the grapes and ensure that the flavours were captured in the finished wine. The privately owned winery is newly built and beautifully equipped, which made Alana's job considerably easier.
