Description:
Every morning, in the Valley of Maule, the Andes Mountain sun rises initiating the ritual union of land and vine. These dry vineyards situated in the coastal inland of the Pacific 'Cordillera shelter some of the world's oldest 'Carignan' vines, many of them reaching more than 80 years of age. This variety, recovered from oblivion, is without a doubt, one of the great treasures of Chile.

Intense dark ruby colour, with hints of purple and mahogany on the edges. Warm and dense aroma reminiscent of spices and forests. The elegant palate has silky tannins and notes of fruit (blueberry and blackcurrant jams) over a background of rich vegetal and spicy tones (clove, tobacco, pepper). Barrel ageing has added touches of vanilla and smoke. The varietal character of the old Carinena vines is outstanding in the long and intense aftertaste.

Perfect with pates, roast duck, rice dishes with meat, cold cuts, roast or braised beef, vegetable stews and casseroles or lamb.

Producer Information

In 1979, our hundred year-old wine-making company acquired a small winery in Curicó, in the Chilean central valley, as the first foreign company to back Chilean vineyard production located in a unique magical landscape, at the feet of the Andes volcanoes. Today, after almost thirty years, those 100 hectares acquired then have turned into 445 hectares of vineyards owned by the company itself. Our first estates in these lands were Maquehua, San Francisco Norte and Cordillera. At the end of the 90s we added San Luis de Alico and Empedrado. The excellent climate conditions for cultivating grapevines, with great temperature differences between night and day and lands free of grape phylloxera, have contributed to the fact that sublime wines are being made in lands from where one can view the greatness of the Andes, crowned by snow and a noble beauty. As of 2010 Miguel Torres Chile is directed by Miguel Torres Maczassek, a fifth generation Torres winemaker who moved to Chile with his family in order to maintain the tradition and passion for winemaking that the Torres family has demonstrated all these years.
