Description:
Eight Songs Shiraz was born of our love of art and music and inspired by an operatic work, 'Eight Songs for Mad King', first performed in the Barossa in 1993.

The Barossa stands amongst the great wine regions of the world. From this region, Shiraz can express diversity in flavour, style and texture. The diverse terroir of our growers' Barossa vineyards is reflected in the character of our wines. Soils, elevations and vine age vary from one vineyard to the next. The heart of Eight Songs lies in the old Shiraz vineyards spread across the landscape of the Barossa. During the vintage, we walk these vineyards, which typically yield less than 2.5 tonnes per acre, tasting the fruit, seeking the concentrated flavours we need for this style of Shiraz.

With Eight Songs we show an elegant and distinctly softer side to Barossa Shiraz. Fermented and matured in 100% new French oak hogsheads the palate shows dark plums, choc/ mocha notes with hints of vanillin undertones. The seamless integration of opulent fruit and velvety tannins creates an elegant expression of Barossa Shiraz at its sensuous best.

A densely coloured shiraz showing hints of dark chocolate and black fruits. The palate is rich and soft, finishing with very fine tannins in the Eight Songs tradition.

While drinking beautifully now, this wine can be cellared with confidence for a few more years as desired and it is recommended that the wine be carefully decanted 2-3 hours before serving, to allow it to open up.

Eight Songs Shiraz sings with rare roast beef, rich casseroles, beef and game pies, and of course, a great aged cheddar.

Producer Information

Peter Lehmann's personal bravery, loyalty and commitment to the Barossa forged the foundations of the winery that bears his name, built in 1979 to protect the livelihood of his mates, the independent Barossa grape growers, and their treasured vineyards. His passion for, and commitment to, the Barossa is infectious and continues with everyone today that is associated with Peter Lehmann Wines, now under the guidance of son Doug Lehmann.
A conviction that the Barossa is the best place in Australia to make wine, and having enough self belief to constantly explore and push the boundaries of wine excellence has yielded some impressive results over the years, perhaps none more spectacularly than in both 2003 and 2006 when they accepted the awards for Best Australian Producer and International Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.
Their commitment to the Barossa and the growers has been rewarded and the winemakers enjoy access to a legacy of over 900 vineyards that has no peer in the Barossa winemaking community. The growers, their vineyards and a commitment to excellence in Barossa winemaking have been the backbone of Peter Lehmann Wines since 1979.
The Peter Lehmann Barossa Art Series Collection is testament to the Barossa's viticultural heritage, its ability to excel across a variety of wines and the quality and diversity of the growers' vineyards. Their love of wine and art and the diverse character of these wines have inspired Peter Lehmann Wines to distinguish each label with one of the many faces of the Queen of Clubs who is symbolic of the brave gamble Peter Lehmann took to build his winery in 1979.
