Spotlight on Tinpot Hut
The Tinpot Hut Winery is the brainchild of Fiona Turner when in 2003 with husband Hamish, established their own 50 acre vineyard in the emerging sub-region of Blind River, just south of Marlborough's Awatere Valley - one of the founding properties in the area. The original Tinpot Hut is an historic mustering hut nestled high in the hills of Marlborough.
The huts were used as a base for the musterers responsible for moving the sheep from their summer grazing high ground to the low paddocks for the winter. Fiona is a master in her field with over 15 years of experience in New Zealand and overseas in viticulture, wine-making and wine marketing, which allows her elegant and contemporary wines to evolve. The current offering of the 2015 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been awarded a Blue-Gold medal and hit the Top 100, both at the 2016 Sydney International Wine Competition (SIWC). In its 36th year the SIWC is the only international wine show that judges finalist wines in combination with appropriate food and 'this wine is very food-friendly'. With its signature blackcurrant, lemon-grass and fresh thyme flavours with a distinctive mineral palate, it's the perfect drop for summer (or any other season really).
