Once pull'd the Devil by the nose, with red hot tongs, which made him roar. That he was heard three miles or more... THE STORY OF SAINT THE CUCKOO LINE The label celebrates the Victorian railway known as The Cukoo Line that once passed through Mayfield Village. The story starts in the village of Mayfield, as daffodils rouse their sleepy heads, an old woman comes down the Cuckoo Line, CHOO CHOO. Around her Sussex folk
gather, and heathfield children chatter, awaiting fair Spring proclaimed anew. And lo, appearing from her bushel - a flock of feathered creatures that cry CUCKOO CUCKOO. THE STORY OF THE LUCKY HORSESHOE The dramatic label depicts the story of Saint Dunstan & the devil meeting in the 10th century. The old Devil returned to the village of Mayfield, his cloven hoof broken and lame, his pride a bit tattered too. St. Dunstan amid his holy fires, with silver ore and clanging irons, forged for him a red-hot shoe. Seven blows and the Devil was tricked, a fiery arc to his hoof affixed and forever since has Sussex lived beneath the luck of Duntan's Horseshoe.
