The name sambuca originates from the latin name of the elder tree - sambuca nigra, growing in abundance in Italy from where its oils are used in its production before adding the white elder blossoms which, after distillation, along with the anise seeds and other ingredients create Opal Neras unique flavour with its dark purple/black colour derived from the elder berries. Perfect after dinner or as an apperitif, served with a twist of lemon and sure to please the palate. Ledgend has it that the three coffee beans traditionally placed on the surface of the drink are a symbol of romance.
