Aromas of herbs and violets and a palate of rich, ripe fruit, loganberry, damson and then spice and a hint of aniseed on the finish.
This 20 hectare domaine has been owned by the Daniel family since the 18th Century. The Gigondas vineyards are situated on the south facing terraces of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains and have soils consisting of chalky clay with grey quartz.
The vines, ageing from 30-50 years, are planted with 69% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 8% Mourvedre, 7% Carignan, 3% Cinsault and 3% Caladoc.
Handpicking ensures that only the best fruit is retained. The fruit destined for the Gigondas Costvieille is selected from special vineyard parcels and spends 15 months in new and older barriques. The grapes for the Vacqueyras comes from a specific parcel called Pavane where the vines have an average age of 35 years. It has a higher proportion of Grenache (72%) complemented with Syrah (20%) and Mourvedre (8%).
