Famous Grouse is one of the most pleasant blended whiskies I have ever tasted, so I was surprised to see a new type on the shelves. The Vintage Malt is what some call a 'pure malt' blend, meaning it is a blend of single malt whiskies only, rather than the regular Famous Grouse, which blends malt and grain whiskies. At first, I was wary of this drink, as I had enjoyed the original Grouse, and was concerned that it might just be a gimmick. However, I am glad I tried it. It is fantastic. Such a wonderful blend. It has a powerful fiery taste, but not unpleasant. The main flavours are of burned oak and chocolate. Adding a little water opens up the flavours becoming more floral, also taking away the fiery taste. A beautiful blend, now my favourite blended whisky :o)
