KLEIN CONSTANTIA - Sauvingon Blanc Perdeblokke 2006South African White Wine
Lightly coloured, fresh green tints.
The nose is very assertive with Sauvignon blanc aromas. Pungent capsicum and passion fruit with fresh mint leaves and zesty grapefruit.
Despite all these very fruity aromas, there is an underlying minerality which prevents the nose from shifting too much into the fruit salad spectrum of Sauvignon.
The palate is full bodied at 13.8% alcohol, but with a steely acidity, and due to the concentration of fruit flavour an almost sweet fruit palate. The experience is much like the sweet and sour interplay of pickled gherkins. The minerally aspects picked up on the nose once again provide a dimension of severity which casts the wine in a much more serious light.
Bottled under screw-cap, with a low pH and very little intervention between fermentation and the bottling itself, this wine is going to develop well into the next decade.
