GREEN POINT - Yarra Valley Reserve Chardonnay 2003Fine Australian White Wine
Each harvest, the Green Point winemakers select limited quantities of the very best fruit from the Chardonnay harvest. This wine is aged for 18 months in extra fine grain French barriques. The utmost care is then taken to preserve the essence of the varietal characteristics and enhance the complexity of this wine.
This exclusive wine is then labelled 'Reserve'.
The Green Point Vineyard at Coldstream in the heart of the Yarra Valley was planted with Chardonnay in 1987 and the fruit from this vineyard is the core of our blend. They also source fruit from several growers that are only a stone's throw from the Green Point vineyard however with different aspect and vine age the fruit from these vineyards increases the complexity of our blend. A small portion of their fruit is sourced from the Upper Yarra, at approximately 200 metres altitude. The cooler conditions provide parcels of fruit that are lighter in structure with very intense flavours and racy acidity.
Vibrant Pale Straw with a Green Hue.
The wine has a fragrant aroma of white peach, lemon butter and honeydew enhanced by subtle, fresh roasted hazelnut and cashew aromas derived from barrel fermentation.
Lemon, grapefruit and white peach flavours provide a racy, fresh entry before leading to a creamy and smooth mid palate. Extended maturation in fine grained French oak barriques adds structure and length to the finish.
An explosion of fresh Yarra Valley Chardonnay fruits, enhanced with the complexity of French oak and wine making techniques, to produce a complex and textured wine.
