COCKBURNS - Vintage 1983Vintage Port
A big, tough, tannic Port for long term ageing .
Overpowering fruit and tannin with cherry and berry flavours and a long lingering finish. Should drink well 2000 onward.
Wine Makers Notes A dry winter and partly wet spring, but an unusually cold year, including the month of August. However September was hot with the vintage starting late, but in very good conditions. Due to the wet and cold spring there were very poor flowering in some varieties and an overall very small crop. The wine is rich in tannins, very aromatic - overpowering fruit and tannin with cherry and berry flavours and a long lingering finish with great ageing potential.
Press Quotes WINE SPECTATOR: 97 Points "A big, tough port for long-term ageing. It underlines what people mean when they say a great young vintage port should overpower one's palate with fruit and tannin. Inky colour with perfumed cherry and berry aromas. Full-bodied with tons of tannins, intense cherry and berry flavours and a lingering finish. Best from 1998 through the 2000s." Issue date: 1st January 1989.
