A wise gardener once said 'Grapes are the most noble and challenging of fruits'. These are the words that run through the minds at Mud House as they call for the helicopters in the middle of a freezing Central Otago night or selectively prune every second bunch of grapes from their vines, to lift the quality of the remaining fruit.

Mud House people just love a challenge. Some of them have arrived in viticulture from the coal mines of the corporate world; others have followed their noses through the echelons of wine making. They're united in their determination to find every drop of potential in the grapes they work with.

Hay Maker holds its own as a damn good quaffing wine; the Mud House label is a premium range of award winning wines; and Mud House Swan is their boutique reserve tier, offering small parcel, single vineyard estate wines that really stand out from the crowd.

With vineyards in Marlborough, Waipara and Central Otago, Mud House staked a claim on some of New Zealand's best wine land. They let the vines decide where the property ambitions should lie, so future purchases will always follow the dream of the ideal land to grow the perfect grape.
