Denis lafon started making wine in 1967 in Cotes de Blaye, overlooking the Gironde river and the surrounding hills. He has built his vineyard up to an impressive 65 hectares, with an average production per year of about 450000 bottles of Premieres Cotes de Blaye Red and 25000 bottles of Premieres Cotes de Blaye White.
He has always used an approach as close to nature as possible and has developed farming practices to complement this, including ploughing under vine rows, grassing between the rows to restrict the vigour of the vines and thinning out the leaves to control rot. Crop pruning and thinning to reduce yields and concentrate the fruit is also standard practice.
The wines are partly aged in oak barrels with 20% new each year.
