Fate is a fickle thing. In 2001, when Ralph Erenzo purchased the Tuthilltown Gristmill to open a rock climber's ranch, the neighbours balked. So having to find another way Ralph looked for inspiration and found it in the history of the mill and grain, water and yeast. A new purpose was born; he decided to make whiskey. Converting two granaries into the first whiskey distillery in New York State since Prohibition.
Not knowing anything about distilling for two years Ralph & business partner Brian Lee travelled to distilleries and talked to experts around the globe, all the while building their distillery. It then took six months of experimentation to produce great, rich whiskey by hand, one handcrafted batch at a time - and in the process herald the revival of micro distilling in America.
From grain to glass, great care and pride was taken to produce artisanal spirits which captured local flavour and ambience, and the whiskey lovers took note with Hudson named "Best Artisan Distiller of 2010" by the American Distilling Institute - real American Whiskey had arrived 'big time'!
