There have been a few hiccups in Russia's history over the last 100 years. Since 1901, through all the revolutions and uprisings, the Distillery Buturlinovskiy (where Dovgan is made), Russia's oldest, has steadfastly continued to produce vodka. The Admiral recipe itself is even older than the distillery dating from 1885. Until recently the Dovgan family of vodkas were only available in Russia. So, for the last 100 odd years, if you wanted a Dovgan you'd have had to take a 7,600 km trip to try it. Clearly, unlike other so-called Russian vodkas, this is the genuine article. It's not just vodka with a semi Russian name and it's not a vodka made in Russia exclusively for the export market. It's made by Russians in Russia for Russians.
