Millburn was Inverness' first distillery, indeed it was one of the first to be licensed in Scotland in 1825. Initially it struggled due to the amount of local illicit distilling and changed hands several times before coming under the DCL banner in 1943. Booth's, the London Gin company, owned the distillery for less than a year when it was severely damaged by fire and had to be completely rebuilt. The distillery was closed in 1985 and sold to the Beefeater restaurant chain in 1990. As you drive into Inverness from the Aberdeen road you pass "The Auld Distillery" restaurant; where the distillery used to stand.
