Quinta do Noval is situated in the very heart of the Douro valley, in the Cima Corgo, just two kilometres from the small town of Pinhao. As you approach the entrance to the quinta from Pinhao, you will see the famous broad terraces of Quinta do Noval on the right. The Quinta, which is principally situated in the valley of the small Pinhao river, a tributary of the Douro, has approximately 145 hectares of vines, ranging in altitude from 100 metres, at the level of the Pinhao river, to 350 metres at the summit of the valley. The Quinta is approached by a long drive, covered by trellised vines. This is the first view of the quinta that you see as you drive up. Normally guests park on the other side of the house, next to the famous terrace, shaded throughout the long summer by a magnificent cedar tree. This tree has offered its protective shade to countless 'aperitivos', where white port and chilled ten year old tawny are served to guests, accompanied by the almonds and olives grown at the quinta. The terrace commands a superb view of the Douro river, across the ancient stone walled terraces of Noval, which curve away beneath.
