The Glenturret Distillery, renowned for its historical production of both peated and unpeated Scotch whisky, has unveiled this 2022 release of its 10-year-old single malt, celebrating their peaty tradition. In the early 1800s, peat was sourced from the mosses surrounding The Glenturret's water source; nowadays, a wide variety of peat sources are utilised to achieve an extensive range of flavour characteristics. This single malt, matured in a combination of American and European oak and bottled at 50% ABV, offers a satisfyingly smoky experience from the Highland distillery. On the nose, it presents nutty malt and smoked almonds, accompanied by zesty citrus oils and a touch of sea breeze. The palate reveals warming layers of baking spice and peat smoke, accented by charred oak and candied oranges. The finish is characterised by oily malt and bonfire ashes, interspersed with sweet, zesty spice and nuanced hints of chocolate salted pretzels.
