The team at Derbyshire's White Peak Distillery has diligently crafted their first major Wire Works whisky release of 2023. Caduro, a lightly peated single malt, showcases spirit matured in a selection of bourbon barrels and the distillery's distinctive shaved, toasted, and re-charred French wine barriques. Since its inception in 2016, White Peak Distillery has consistently progressed, with Caduro serving as an exploration into developing a future core range. The aroma presents orchard fruits, leading with crisp apple and candied citrus zest, followed by sweet pear drops and buttery fudge, with accents of crushed almonds, vanilla cream, and roasted barley. The palate reveals layers of honeyed stone fruit and caramelised nuts, complemented by flavours of hot cross buns, a hint of anise, and chocolate-dipped orange wheels. Creamy malt lies in the depths with a generous touch of charred oak. The finish is characterised by subtle peat smoke, balanced by sweet, creamy notes of vanilla custard, and subtle hints of gingery warmth.
